Any agreements
that might be necessary would be signed in Hong Kong, apart from the usual passage agreement entered into
with the Crown Agents.
Following upon this arrangement one or two

for a Lecturer and Tutor in English, Mr. Hoell (the
Vice-Chancellor) wrote to Mr. Ainsworth of the Board
of Education, a personal friend, and invoked his assis-
tance in selecting candidates for the post. The
Appointments Branch
gladly concurred in an
arrangement which relieved them of this burden and
the Board of Education were officially requested to
proceed to the selection of a suitable candidate.
It was agreed that theoffer of appointment should
come from the Colonial Office.
Subsequent vacancies have been filled in
the same way, candidates being selected by the Board
of Education and receiving the offer of appointment
from the Colonial Office.
